For radiation protection purposes,
ICRU
has designed digital anthropomorphic phantoms,
Golem and Laura, consisting of millions of tiny volume elements ("voxels") of
roughly 15 - 30 mm3, whose exact locations in the phantom are known and
whose chemical compositions match that of the corresponding human tissue.
